Airport News: Passengers at airports will no longer have to wait for long in front of the baggage belt for their baggage. After the strictness of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the baggage waiting time has started decreasing at six major airports of the country. These airports include Delhi as well as Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore airports.

It is noteworthy that in a survey conducted in January 2024, BCAS found that about 37.8 percent of passengers at these six airports have to spend more than 30 minutes on the baggage belt waiting for their baggage. After which, BCAS had asked to reduce the baggage waiting time citing the global standards set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

A new exercise started at six airports
According to BCAS, keeping in mind the rules of the International Air Transport Association, the OMDA agreement with airport operators clearly states that the luggage of the passengers should be delivered within 30 minutes of the arrival of the aircraft. Keeping this agreement in mind, a new exercise was started at these six airports, the aim of which was to reduce the baggage waiting time.

According to BCAS, this exercise was started on 14 January 2024. At that time only 62.2% of the passengers were able to get their baggage within the time limit set by IATA. As part of this exercise, BCAS reviewed the root causes with all domestic airlines and airport operators, due to which there was a delay in the delivery of baggage.
