If sources are to be believed, the consent of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has also been received regarding this new policy. It is expected that by the last week of May, this new policy will be implemented to all the airports in the country.

Under the new policy, fees will have to be paid for this service
According to sources, the new policy is being made for wheelchair service. So far, all the airlines are providing free service of wheelchairs to their passengers. Under the new policy, now the free service of wheelchair will be limited to senior citizens. Passengers under the age of 60 years will have to fulfill certain conditions to get a free facility of wheelchairs. Why DGCA is imposing fees for wheelchair service
According to the Senior Officer of Aviation Ministry, a survey was conducted at all the airports after seeing complaints of wheelcher deficiency at the airport. This survey revealed that most passengers are opting the option of wheelchair to avoid long lines in the terminal. Because of this, passengers who actually need wheelchairs are not able to get this facility. In view of this problem, the DCGA has accepted the demand for paying fees on the wheelchair.

What is the airlines say about fees on wheelchair
According to a senior airlines, all the airlines have their own assessment of how many sick and elderly passengers travel daily, who really need wheelchairs. Based on this requirement, the airlines have signed a contract with wheelchair service provider. Airlines have to pay huge fees when using wheelchairs more than the contract limit.
