POCSO Act case
Muvattupuzha police had registered a case against the female actor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act based on the complaint of her relative.
According to the police, the incident occurred in 2014. The complainant has alleged that she was a minor at the time of the incident and the actor was running a sex racket. She has alleged that the female actor was running a sex racket and had taken her to Chennai for a film audition where she was exposed to several people for sexual relations.
The actor had vehemently denied the allegations and claimed that the female relative owed him some money and that the allegations were meant to divert attention from his complaint against high-profile actors.
The actress’ allegations against cinema industry professionals came after the revelations of the Justice Hema Committee report which revealed cases of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam cinema industry, leading to demands for action against the culprits.
In 2017, after the actress assault case, the Kerala government had formed the Justice Hema Committee.
The entire report was placed before the Kerala High Court, which directed that it be handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was formed to investigate complaints of sexual abuse in the film industry.
After this, SIT registered 26 FIRs in connection with the revelations in the report.
