The Academy chose the perfect day to pay tribute to Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic entry scene in Karan Johar’s 2001 blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. It was Friday, November 1, the next day of Diwali and the eve of the superstar’s 59th birthday. (Also Read: Did Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Dislike Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan? Academy calls K3G entry as SRK’s greatest entry
The official Instagram handle of the Academy shared the memorable scene from the film set on Diwali at the Raichand mansion. As soon as Shah Rukh’s Rahul Raichand lands in the courtyard in a black chopper and plants his feet on the ground, his mother, Nandini Raichand (Jaya Bachchan) instinctively senses his presence.
Dressed in a stunning Manish Malhotra white sari, she diverts her attention from greeting her husband Yash Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) with the aarti thali (the plate with the puja lamp). She then starts walking towards the entrance and Shahrukh, completely dressed in black, runs towards his house.
Once Jaya starts doubting her intuition, she turns back in disappointment, just then out of the corner of her eye, Shahrukh enters. He smiles and points a finger at her knowingly. He asks in Hindi, “Hey mother, how do you feel my presence every time before I come?” Jaya just smiles, tears in her eyes, applies tilak on his forehead and caresses his face. The academy aptly captioned its post, “A mother’s intuition is always right. (shiny emoji).” In a comment, the Academy also wrote, “Is this SRK’s best entry scene? (thinking emoji).”
Internet, Karan Johar’s reaction
One Instagram user commented, “One of his best entries… and it’s basically the perfect scenario!” This scene is engraved in our minds like… Shahrukh Khan is the king of romance because of such dreamy movies (heart eyes and red heart emojis).” Another wrote, “Helicopter sounds like this: – What???????” A third comment said, “Unbelievable. It has even reached the academies!!!!” And a fourth read, “Everything is normal until I see who posted it (sweaty face emoji).”
Karan Johar, who wrote, directed and produced Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham under his banner Dharma Productions, shared the Academy’s post on his Instagram Stories and wrote, “This post made me smile.”
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham also featured actors like Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee. While Karan is directing a web series for Netflix India, Shahrukh will be seen in the crime drama King, which will release in theaters on Eid 2026.
