Another twist has been seen in the ongoing drama regarding JioHotstar domain name. In a plot consistent with the crime thrillers streamed on any of these platforms, a message from an unidentified techie is asking for Rs 1 crore received from Reliance for the domain went missing. It’s been replaced by something interesting – an account of a brother-sister pair from the United Arab Emirates who help underprivileged children study. And while the Internet is in ‘go figure’ mode, the answer may be simpler than people expect. ,Also read: Technical expert said, Reliance is threatening legal action Rs 1 crore for giving up JioHotstar domain,

What is JioHotstar Drama?

Earlier this week, an unnamed Delhi-based app developer revealed that he had purchased the JioHotstar domain name ahead of the proposed merger between the two Indian streaming giants JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar in 2023. Noting that JioHotstar will likely be the name of the merged entity, the tech expert said that they will sell the domain to Reliance Industries (Jio’s parent company). His dream course at Cambridge University costs Rs 1 crore. Reliance didn’t bite and threatened to sue for ‘copyright infringement’. The tech expert added an update that although they did not violate any copyrights, they had no resources to fight a giant corporation. In an update on Thursday he said the site would soon go offline.

New ‘Revamped’ Site

On Friday, the site was replaced by two children’s pages based in the United Arab Emirates. “Welcome to our journey of service,” was written on the masthead, and the message read: “Hello! We are Jainam and Jeevika – brothers and sisters from Dubai, UAE, on a mission to make a change. Regardless We are just kids, we believe that age is just a number when it comes to spreading kindness and positivity. Our recent trip started during our summer holidays when we went to our home in India for 50 unforgettable days. We had one purpose: to connect with kids from diverse backgrounds, share their love of learning, teach them study and goal-setting skills, and inspire them to dream big.”

The page now hosts some pictures of Jainam and Jeevika and videos from their YouTube channel on how they are trying to organize events and inspire other children.

This change has surprised many who were following the JioHotstar drama. But the only possibility is that the original technical expert gave up the domain name, and someone else bought it on behalf of Jainam and Jeevika. On Friday, the domain was available to almost everyone 4.6 Lakh on NameCheap.com.

It is unclear how Reliance will deal with this new content on the domain or whether they will threaten legal action again. HT.com has reached out to JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar for comments, and will update the story when they respond.
