Karauli. There is a fair held in Rajasthan just 5 days before Holi which makes hundreds of traders across the state rich in just 5 days. The name of this fair which has been taking place since the princely state is also Mall Fair. Every year, this fair has been continuously held in Karauli in Eastern Rajasthan, exactly 20 days after the Mahashivratri cattle fair, since the royal days.
People also eagerly wait for this fair throughout the year. There are some items including whole spices and pure iron utensils which can be found only here. This fair held in the fair ground complex of Karauli is especially known for its pure spices. This fair, which comes once a year, fills the spice pan of the house for a year. People stock spices from this fair for the whole year.
Number one in quality and cheaper than market price spices
The goods fair starts filling up 5 days before Holi. Traders from far and wide come here to buy spices. In this, the sale of spices and iron utensils is so huge that on the day of Holi, the entire stock of the traders gets wiped out. Famous whole spices from all over the state come to be sold in this fair. The spices available in the fair are number one in quality and cheaper than the market price.
Record breaking sales of spices
Trader Bahadur Singh, who came from Bharatpur to sell spices, said that this time spices worth more than Rs 4 crore were sold in the fair. Sales are very good in this fair which lasts from 5 to 7 days. Most of the traders come from Bayana and Bharatpur. Chilli, spices and iron are sold the most in the fair.
What is not found anywhere else will be found here
Along with spices worth crores of rupees, iron utensils are also sold worth crores in this fair. Here, hundreds of traders of more than 100 items of spices, 20 to 25 items of iron and many other items come from far and wide to do business.
every penny is sold
Brahm Kumar Pandey of Animal Husbandry Department said that the size of the goods fair is small but the trade in it is done on a large scale. From this fair, local people buy red chillies and hot spices for the whole year. Truckloads of spices come to the fair and their sales are so huge that not even a single grain is left on the closing day of the fair.
