US-India Foundation announces launch of annual Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship

The fellowship is funded by the Ministry foreign affairsGovernment of India and US State Department.

According to the MEA release, such exchanges have helped in bringing the people of India together United States of america Through opportunities that enrich the academic, research, teaching and professional capabilities of Fellows.

The Ministry of External Affairs has encouraged “outstanding Indian students, academicians, teachers, policy makers, administrators and professionals” to apply.

According to the USIEF website, Fulbright-Nehru Master Fellowships are designed for highly motivated individuals who demonstrate excellent leadership qualities, have completed the equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree, have at least three years of professional work experience, and are willing to return to their communities in India. And are committed to contributing.

These fellowships are awarded for up to two years to pursue a master’s degree at American colleges and universities. Economics, Environmental Science/Studies; Higher Education Administration; international affairs; International Legal Studies; Journalism and Mass Communication; public administration; public health; Urban and Regional Planning; and Women’s Studies/Gender Studies.

What are the eligibility requirements for the fellowship program?

• According to the USIEF website, the applicant must be a responsible Indian citizen who can contribute to a full and unbiased picture of the culture and civilization of India, and help promote understanding and friendship between the people of the United States and India.
• Applicants must not reside in the US during the recruitment and placement cycle (February 2024-July 2025).
• Indian citizens with active permanent resident status Foreign Countries are not eligible to apply.
• Applicants must have a high level of educational/professional achievement.
• Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English language to undertake the proposed project/program and adjust to life in the United States.
• If applicants need to travel abroad (e.g., conferences, fellowships, etc.) during the application cycle February 2024 – July 2025, they must notify USIEF in advance.
• If the applicant is working then he should be eligible for leave.
• They must not have or apply for permanent residence (green card) in the United States.
• The applicant must undertake to return to India on completion of the fellowship.

Apart from the above conditions, the fellowship applicant must also have checked these eligibility requirements:

• Applicant must have completed the equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree from a recognized Indian university with at least 55% marks.
• Applicants must have either a four-year bachelor’s degree or a completed master’s degree; OR Full-time postgraduate diploma from a recognized Indian institution, if the undergraduate degree is of less than four years duration.
• Applicants must have at least three years of full-time (paid) professional work experience related to the proposed field of study by the application closing date.
• They must demonstrate experience in leadership and community service.
• They must not have any other degree from a US university or be enrolled in a US degree program.
• If employed, the applicant should carefully follow the instructions regarding employer endorsements. If applicable, obtain endorsement from the appropriate administrative authority on the FNMasters Employer Approval Form. The employer must state that leave will be granted for the fellowship period.
