Announcement related to cervical cancer vaccination in Indian budget appreciated

Washington. An eminent Indian-American cancer expert on Wednesday praised the announcement made in the Indian Budget regarding vaccination of girls aged 9 to 14 years to prevent cervical cancer.

Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori told PTI, “The emphasis on preventive programs for cervical cancer in the Budget is a commendable step towards solving an important public health problem in India. The initiative to vaccinate girls aged 9-14 years to prevent cervical cancer is especially commendable, because this disease takes the lives of more than 150 women every day in the country.”

Dr. Nori, who was honored with Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution in the field of medicine, said that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer found in women in India, with more than 85,000 new cases reported every year and approximately 100,000 deaths each year. 50,000 deaths occur.
