Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday addressed a large gathering in Khongjom (Manipur) for the second phase of the Congress’ nationwide campaign, saying, we want to share the vision of brotherhood and harmony. Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the senior Congress leader said, “Lakhs of people were affected, and people died in front of family members. But the Prime Minister has not gone to Manipur to wipe your tears or hug you. Maybe for them Manipur is not a part of India and your pain is not their pain.”
Gandhi said that Manipur is an example of the politics of hatred and ideology spread by BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He assured that Congress will strive to bring back harmony and peace in Manipur.
Elaborated on the decision to name the second phase of its nationwide campaign Bharat Jodo Nyay YatraThe Congress leader said, ‘Nyay’ aims to highlight the social, economic and political injustice currently happening in the country. He said that the purpose of the yatra was to listen to the problems of people of all sections.

This was the Congress leader’s second visit as he had visited the state during the caste conflict in June last year.
“I came to Manipur on June 29 last year and what I saw and heard then, I had never heard or seen before. I have been in politics since 2004. But this was the first time I saw the collapse of governance in a state. Gandhi said, Manipur is now divided and hatred has spread in every corner.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who joined the party’s campaign campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections along with chief ministers of several Congress-ruled states and former Manipur chief minister O Ibobi Singh, said, “We have a long journey ahead. I feel that such a journey has neither happened before nor will happen in the future. Modi comes to Manipur to seek votes, but when the people of the state are in trouble, he is holidaying on beaches and performing religious activities in the name of Ram.
During his address, the Congress President also reminded how Rahul Gandhi had visited the state in June last year.
Earlier today, Gandhi, who arrived in Imphal in a chartered flight from Delhi along with several senior Congress leaders, began his visit by paying floral tributes at the Khongjom War Memorial for the fallen heroes of the 1891 Anglo-Manipur War.
This was followed by a large rally at a private ground in Khongjom where Gandhi addressed a large gathering. The second phase of last year’s South to North India Jodo Yatra will travel about 6,700 km and pass through 15 states from East to West India and will culminate in Mumbai on March 20.
