However, by night, the explosion was declared, and the withdrawal was allowed to return to their homes.

In 2018, residents with painful memories of a deadly explosion sought asylum in the early hours of Monday, as the Fuego volcano exploded 35 km (22 mi) from the capital Guatemala city.

The 46 -year -old manual Cobox, along with his wife and three daughters, told AFP after leaving his house, “We heard Rambling and then a strong explosion,” AFP told after leaving his house with his wife and three daughters.

Juan Laureno, spokesperson of the Disaster Coordination Agency, Guatemala, said that some 125 families, around 900 people, around 900 people were transferred from the L. Porvenier community for protection.

The official said that residents of another community in Las Lajitas were also vacated.

Buses turn the withdrawal with goods to a town hall into a temporary shelter, while other friends or relatives stayed.

Around 30,000 people were potentially “at risk” and should empty themselves if necessary, Kind Head Cladin Ogalds said at a news conference.

On Monday, however, the explosive episode was declared “finished” and the volcano parameters returned to “normal” levels after the dramatic increase of activity from Sunday, the state -run volcanic institute said in a bulletin.

Guatemala Prashant is located on the “Ring of Fire” and experiences continuous seismic and volcanic activity.

In June 2018, 215 people were killed and a similar number disappeared when the Phuego volcano erupted, sent the rivers of Lava down to their sides and destroyed the village of San Miguel Los Lots.

On that occasion, the residents “did not believe the magnitude and a tragedy,” Cobox said, which works on a pig farm.

58 -year -old housekeeper Amanda Santos said memories of the previous explosion came back when she heard the firefighters’ siren.

“That’s why we are afraid. Many people died,” he said.

Another explosion from 3,763-meter (12,346-foot) Fuego in 2023 caused the withdrawal of about 1,200 people.

Konre said that a warning was issued by the authorities on Sunday to coordinate the response and preventive measures.

The government suspended local school activities, although classes were now ready to resume on Tuesday.

Officials temporarily closed a road through the village, which connects the south of the country to the colonial city Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most popular tourist destination of Guatemala.

The authorities monitored the pyrocklastic flow-the rapidly growing currents of the hot ash, gas and rock pieces that descend from the slopes of a volcano, said the Cond spokesperson Laureno.

The volcanic institute recommended that the air traffic that spreads to Ash Cloud to be cautious.
