Kiit University claims that 1,100 out of 1,100 Nepalese students returned to the campus after 16 February unrest.

The private university on Friday claimed that Odisha’s Higher Education Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj informed the assembly that the state government formed a Professor Committee to ensure a proper educational environment in the KIIT campus.

KIIT said in a statement, “1,000 out of 1,100 Nepalese students have returned to KIIT-DU to resume their educational work after temporarily leaving the premises in view of the incident of 16 February. The remaining 100 students are on their way and are coming soon,” in a statement, in a statement, the return of the students said strong ties.

Nepali students were allegedly evicted from the campus by KIIT employees, as they demanded justice for 20 -year -old Prakrit Lamsal, who died of suicide in his hostel room on 16 February.

The students were reportedly beaten, abused orally and even thrown out of the premises as they staged a demonstration on the death of a Nepali girl’s student.

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed concern over the method of treatment by KIIT officials by Nepali students.

Later, the institute apologized and urged the students to return to the premises.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Mangi also assured the complete security of Nepali students when he returned to the campus in the insect.

Meanwhile, the state government has established a helpdesk to facilitate the withdrawal of Nepali students and launched a dedicated International Student Facilitation Sale to support and assist international students in (public/private/deemed) universities.

In a statement, Versity thanked the Central Government, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Odisha Government, Nepali Government, and Nepali Embassy in New Delhi for the return of students.

Officials also stated that in coordination with law enforcement officials, KIIT had taken immediate steps to restore the general situation and ensure the safety and welfare of all students.

“Along with stabilizing the situation, Kiit-Du was engaged in continuous communication with the Nepal Embassy, ​​student representatives and parents to assure them about the available security and support at the University. The special grievance redressal mechanism was placed to address any concern and enhance the overall student experience,” the statement said.

Versity said that these efforts saw the return of Nepali students on the campus with “renewed confidence”.

“The university has confirmed its commitment to maintain an inclusive, safe and academic rich environment for all its students,” he said.

As directed by NHRC, its team is investigating the “on-spot” about the death of a female student and later harassment by KIIT employees of Nepali students.

The NHRC inquiries under the leadership of its Registrar (LAW) Joginder Singh have collected evidence from the Odisha Police and interacted with KIIT officials, students and other persons associated with the incident.

The Commission has asked the team to submit its conclusions by 10 March.

Apart from Odisha Police and NHRC, the high-level committee of the state government also presided over the insect incident headed by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department.

The police, meanwhile, arrested 11 people including an engineering student for suicide, including an engineering student.
