The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a circular to direct higher educational institutions (HEIs) to implement strict anti-ring measures in the campus. The UGC emphasized that ragging is a criminal offense and has initiated rules to stop and eliminate it from institutions. The circular also warned that any violation of these rules would be taken seriously. If an institution fails to take appropriate steps to prevent ragging, implements the rules, or punishes those involved in ragging, it will face action from the UGC. Rules can be accessed on UGC websites www.ugc.gov.in and www.antiragging.in.

“According to the decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, to use the powers provided by section (1) of Section 26 of Sub-Dhara (1), 08.05.2009 in Civil Appeal No. 887/2009. The University Grants Commission Act, 1956, UGC “reported regulations on curbing the threat of ragging in higher educational institutions, 2009”. The rules are available on UGC website www.ugc.gov.in & www.antiragging.in, “UGC said in a notice.
