A Noida -based teenager has got an opportunity to take the name of an Estered after discovering an astronomical body under the International Asteroid Discovery Project (IAPD). The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has recognized the asteroid discovery of Dark Malik in Noida and will get a chance to name it, print.
Dark Malik was fascinated by the mysteries of astronomy and often excluded his time with the sky and excluded in the world of outskirts.
According to print report, Malik, along with some other students of his Shiva Nadar School, came to know about the opportunity through the mail sent by the school’s Astronomy Club. The mail included information about the International Astronomical Search Cooperation (IASC).
About the asteroid discovered by Daksh Malik
Asteroids are currently named “2023 OG40” according to the date and time of its discovery. Malik will get a chance to name asteroid when NASA will complete its verification process in the next five years.
What is an asteroid?
According to NASA, asteroids are sometimes called a minor planet. They are about 4.6 billion years ago, the leftover, airless remains left from the early formation of the solar system. Most of these celestial bodies are found revolving around the Sun between Mars and Jupiter within the main asteroid belt. Westa is the largest asteroid discovered so far. It is about 329 miles (530 km) diameter.
How can you discover an asteroid, such as Malik?
According to the report, Darsha Malik achieved the feat by participating in the International Asteroid Discovery Project (IAPD). According to the website of International Astronomical Search Cooperation, people can register as a team for the next available International Asteroid Search Campaign. They have to fill a form and submit it and it will have to attach the IASC coordinator, Cassidy Davis to an email according to the IASC website on IASCSEarch@cisco.edu.
There are requirements to participate in the program here.
-Endwetal can participate in teams.
-We should have access to Windows Computer.
-It is important that participants have access to internet connection.
-Partip may also require IASC’s software astometric detection for campaigns.
-A step form has to be filled and mentioning the program in which you want to participate. Mention the email ID to the form.
