Date:

Last Hindu temple on Pakistan border: It is said that this universe was created by the union of Shiva and Shakti and for the continuous functioning of this universe, only Shiva and Shakti are needed. This is the reason why worship of both Shiva and Shakti has special importance in Sanatan Dharma. Actually, there are many temples of goddesses in the country. But the temple about which we are going to tell you today, is such a temple in whose court even Pakistani generals bow their heads. This temple has special recognition in the entire country including Rajasthan and this temple is also known as ‘Vaishno Devi of Thar’. We are talking about Tanot Mata Temple of Jaisalmer. Recently, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma also came to pay obeisance at this temple. Let us tell about it.

Tanot Mata temple is the last Hindu temple on the Pakistan border. Pakistan border is 20 kilometers away from here. The work of running temples has always been in the hands of people or pundits. But this is the only temple situated on the India-Pakistan border, which is operated by the Border Security Force personnel. Apart from cleaning the temple, the three times aarti performed in the temple is also performed by BSF soldiers. A unique color of enthusiasm along with devotion is seen in the Aarti performed by the Border Security Force soldiers every day in the Mateshwari Tanot Rai temple.

During the India-Pakistan war, an incident occurred due to which the Pakistani soldiers realized their mistake and went back after bowing their heads in front of their mother. It is said that Pakistani soldiers attacked the temple from three different places. But he could not do anything. In 1965, the Pakistani Army dropped about three thousand bombs, but the temple was not affected at all. During this war, about 450 bombs fell in the courtyard of the temple, but not a single one exploded. Even today these bombs are safe in the temple museum. Seeing this miracle that happened in Mata’s temple, the then Pakistani officer Brigadier Shahnawaz Khan was surprised and after taking permission from the Government of India, he presented a silver umbrella to Mata.

The architecture of this temple is amazing and is a perfect example of the skilled craftsmanship of the local artisans. It is a two-storey building with a central dome on top. Colorful paintings and intricate carvings have been done on the walls of the temple.
