Common urological and reproductive problems faced by men are classified depending on their age – before 50 or after 50. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Neelakandan, Consultant Urologist and Andrologist, Prashanth Multi Specialty Hospitals, Chennai, said, “For men below 50 years of age, common urinary problems are urinary tract infections, such as prostate infection. It happens in. , It is also called prostatitis.”

Common urinary problems faced by men under 50:
Common symptoms of prostatitis include a burning sensation when urinating, frequent urination, and inability to control urination. Urethral discharge or urethritis is also common in men under the age of 50. Warning signs of urethritis include blood in the urine or semen, painful discharge, fever, and enlarged lymph nodes in the groin area.
Enlargement of prostate gland:
“The common problem faced by men above 50 years of age is enlargement of the prostate gland. This is a benign age-related enlargement; Rarely it may be a cancerous enlargement of the prostate. For these patients, common symptoms include inability to completely empty the bladder. There is a thin stream of urine and it may take a long time for the bladder to empty completely. Even after emptying, they feel that the bladder has not emptied completely,” said Dr Neelakandan.

Severe stomach pain:
Men of all ages may experience sudden onset of severe abdominal pain along with back pain, a feeling of nausea or vomiting, a burning sensation when urinating, or sometimes blood in the urine. Dr. Neelakandan said, kidney stones are very common these days. Changes in sedentary lifestyle, low water consumption and increased humidity along with excessive sweating contribute to this common urinary condition.

However, kidney stones can be treated. “Stones can be managed medically – advanced laser and endoscopic surgical techniques will completely cure the stones,” said Dr Neelakandan.
