Sonbhadra: Panchmukhi hills are about 3 km away from the Sonbhadra district headquarters of UP. The very ancient rock paintings located here are continuously getting destroyed due to lack of security and protection. Dozens of such caves of prehistoric times are situated on the Panchmukhi hill, in which various types of rock paintings (wall paintings) of the primitive human era are present.

The painting depicts worship
These rock paintings depict many things including cow grazing, worship, animal husbandry, hunting, electric poles. These precious rock paintings are now on the verge of destruction due to tourists lighting fires and picnicking in ancient caves without any restriction. In such a situation, the Archaeological Department has marked these caves by numbering them, but due to leaving them open, these paintings are now getting faded.

There are ancient caves on the Panchmukhi hills
There are dozens of such caves behind the ancient Shiva temple on the Panchmukhi hill, in which rock paintings of prehistoric times can be seen. Local people say that people celebrate picnics every day in these caves located on the Panchmukhi hills, due to people lighting fires and making smoke, these precious rock paintings are now on the verge of destruction. People who come to visit the Panchmukhi hill say that these rock paintings can be saved by creating awareness.

Picnic goers are causing harm
Looking at the paintings of Panchmukhi hill, located about 3 km from Sonbhadra district headquarters, it appears as if someone has done very beautiful painting. Pictures of many types of animals and human civilizations have also been made on the stones here.

Despite being several thousand years old, it is still lying in the same condition, but due to the carelessness of people, its condition is deteriorating. People celebrate picnics here every day and due to smoke and scratches on the stones, all the wall paintings are getting damaged.

The painting is 16,000 years old
When Laxman Dubey was talked to in this regard, he said that the paintings present in the caves on top of the hill are about 16,000 years old. The Archaeological Department has informed that this painting is so many thousand years old.

As far as its maintenance is concerned, no arrangements have been made by the department. Bushes have grown near the hill and caves, due to which it is lying neglected. Seeing these paintings shows how knowledgeable our ancestors were.
