New Delhi: The issue of harassment of female actors in Malayalam cinema came to light when Justice K Hema Committee in its report recorded incidents of harassment, exploitation and abuse of actresses in the film industry and alleged that a criminal gang is controlling the industry. They expel those actors who do not obey them. Now the Kerala government on Sunday decided to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the allegations of female actors in Malayalam cinema.

This important decision was taken in a meeting of top police officials convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The team includes S Ajitha Begum (DIG), Merin Joseph (SP Crime Branch Headquarters), G Poonkuzhali (AIG Coastal Police), Aishwarya Donkare (Assistant Director Kerala Police Academy), Ajith V (AIG, Law and Order) and S Madhusudhanan (SP Crime Branch).

Film producer Ranjit resigned after the allegations
After the interviews and statements of some actresses working in cinema, CM Vijayan held a meeting of top police officials, in which he discussed the problems faced by women artists in the industry. It is worth noting that Malayalam filmmaker Ranjit resigned from the post of President of Kerala Chalachitra Academy after allegations of misbehavior leveled by a Bengali actress. The Bengali actress had recently alleged that when she came to shoot a film directed by him in 2009, the filmmaker misbehaved with her. The filmmaker has rejected the actress’s allegations and called himself a victim.

Many secrets were revealed by Justice Hema Committee report
After allegations of sexual harassment by a female actress, actor Siddique also resigned from the post of General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Speaking to the media, the senior actor said that he has sent his resignation to the organization’s president Mohanlal.
