With biometric verification, including fingerprint and facial recognition, among other measures, the Yogi Adityanath government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to ensure safe conduct of the high-stakes UP police constable recruitment re-exam, which will begin on Friday, nearly six months after it was cancelled in February due to a question paper leak.
The exam will be held on August 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31 at 1174 centres in 67 out of 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB), the state agency that conducts the exam, 48,17,441 (over 48,17 lakh or 4.8 million) candidates have applied to appear in the written examination for 60,244 posts of Uttar Pradesh Police constable.
A press release issued by the media cell of the state government on Thursday said that the state government has ensured strict security measures to maintain the sanctity and transparency of the examination and static magistrates have been deployed at each centre.

The press note states that advanced technology will be used to verify the identity of candidates to ensure transparency in the examination process. Extensive measures have been taken for thorough checking, frisking and supervision of candidates at each examination centre, the press note states.
The press note states, “Entry into the centre will be allowed only after the candidates have undergone physical frisking, security check using hand-held metal detectors (HHMD) and biometric verification including fingerprint and facial recognition. In cases where facial recognition is not possible, arrangements have been made to capture FRIS (Facial Recognition Image System) data. If there is any doubt about facial recognition, Aadhaar authentication will be done to confirm the identity of the candidate.”

“Besides, jammers will be installed at all centres to prevent electronic devices like mobile phones and Bluetooth. The examination halls and centres will be monitored through CCTV cameras, with live feeds sent to control rooms at the centre, district level and recruitment board headquarters to ensure constant monitoring and security.”
Besides, static magistrates have been deployed at every exam centre, with officers ranging from deputy superintendent of police to sub-inspector depending on the number of candidates, who will act as centre supervisors. Besides, there will be intensive monitoring through CCTV cameras and all candidates will be allowed to enter the exam centres only after biometric verification.
Rajiv Krishna, Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, said that as per the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, extensive arrangements have been made for the upcoming police recruitment examination.
Sharing details of the security arrangements, he emphasised, “At the district level, the District Magistrate will act as the District Supervisor, who will oversee administrative duties at each examination centre, including the deployment of Sector Magistrates and Static Magistrates. Each examination centre will have an Assistant Centre Supervisor besides a Static Magistrate. Additional District Magistrates will act as Assistant Nodal Officers (Administration), and Sector Magistrates will be appointed at three examination centres.”
“Flying squads will be on standby to prevent cheating and ensure a smooth process. The centres will be monitored by officers from the rank of deputy superintendent of police to sub-inspector,” he said.
To maintain the sanctity of the examination, 50 percent of the personnel at each centre have been appointed by the District Magistrate, while the remaining 50 percent of the personnel have been selected by the Centre Administrator (Principal). The appointment of examination assistants will be done by both the District Magistrate and the Centre Administrator, in which one inspector will be appointed for 12 candidates and additional assistant inspectors will also be made available as per the requirement.
The exam was earlier scheduled to be held in four shifts on February 17 and 18, 2024, but was cancelled by the state government on February 24 due to the leak of the question paper. The exam was ordered to be held again within six months while ensuring the highest standards of fairness and transparency were followed. In February, 178 FIRs were filed in 41 districts of UP in connection with the question paper leak. At least 400 people were arrested, including two alleged masterminds Rajiv Nayan Mishra and Ravi Atri from Gautam Budh Nagar.
