New Delhi. India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has done a great job on the green logistics front. The company has recently completed the transportation of 20 lakh units through train. Regarding the future plans, Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said that the company is planning to use Indian Railways to supply 35 percent of the vehicles manufactured in its factories in the next 7 to 8 years.
The share of vehicle supply through railways increased from 5 per cent in 2014-15 to 21.5 per cent in the financial year 2023-24. The country’s leading auto manufacturing company supplied 65,700 units through railways in 2014-15, which increased to 4,47,750 units in 2023-24.
Plans to send 35% of total vehicle production through railways in 7-8 years
Takeuchi said, “By the financial year 2030-31, our production capacity will almost double from 20 lakh units to 40 lakh units. We are planning to supply about 35 percent of vehicles through railways in the next 7 to 8 years.”

Maruti Suzuki has so far sent more than 20 lakh vehicles through Indian Railways. It delivers vehicles to 20 destinations in more than 450 cities through railways.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the country’s first ‘Automobile In-Plant Railway Siding’ at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility earlier this year under the PM Gati Shakti program.
