New Delhi. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday that a new update of ‘Improved Image Matching’ is being launched on X. It will monitor deepfakes as well as shallowfakes on social media platforms. “We have just released an update that will identify any fake images,” X said in a post.
Musk said that this step will help in defeating deepfakes (and shallowfakes). Shallowfakes are photos, videos, and voice clips created without the aid of artificial intelligence (AI), and using widely available editing and software tools.

X notes on images automatically appear on posts where the image is found.
The company said, ‘It is common for these notes to match on dozens, hundreds and sometimes thousands of posts. Now, you can see how many posts an image note matches directly in the note details.

Ahead of the election season, experts have warned about the spread of fake news and deepfakes aimed at influencing elections. The Independent Oversight Board has called for urgent action to tackle deepfakes that threaten global elections.
