Union Home Minister Amit Shah told reporters in Guwahati on April 30 that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies have won more than 100 seats in the crucial first two phases this month.
“Two phases of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections have been completed. According to internal assessment of these two phases, BJP and its allies are far ahead on 100 seats,” Amit Shah told reporters.
So far, voting has taken place on 190 seats in the first two phases. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won 93 out of these 190 seats.

“We are seeing huge electoral success in Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand. Apart from these, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu… As per initial trends, BJP is getting good response in South India also,” Shah said.
Voting took place on 102 seats in the first phase on April 19, followed by voting on 88 seats in the second phase on April 26. The third phase of voting is on May 7, while the final phase will be held on June 1. Votes will be cast and counted on June 4.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is seeking a record third term under the leadership of PM Modi, has set a target of winning 400 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats in this election. The ruling coalition is facing a challenge from the Congress-led opposition parties under the banner of India Bloc.
Shah’s statement comes two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his attack on the India block, saying the BJP-NDA alliance is leading 2-0 after the first two phases of Lok Sabha 2024 voting.
