Where has TVS’ clutchless bike gone? The price was only Rs 41,000!

Date:

New Delhi. It would be unfair if we talk about the two-wheeler industry and not mention TVS. TVS has played an important role in developing the technology of two-wheelers. TVS was the first company in the country to launch a clutch-less bike in the market. Earlier, clutchless technology was limited to scooters only, but TVS had launched this technology with bikes also.

Yes, we are talking about ‘TVS Jive’ which was the country’s first bike without clutch. TVS had launched Jive to get rid of the increasing traffic on Indian roads and the hassle of repeatedly pressing the clutch and changing gears in the bike. This bike became very popular for its smooth ride experience.

First clutchless engine bike
For the first time in this bike, the company used the clutchless Timatic engine, which was a state-of-the-art engine of 110 cc capacity. This bike was equipped with rotary gear and autoclutch. This engine with four gear speed produces power of 8.4 bhp at only 7500 rpm and torque of 8.3 Nm at 5500 rpm. To make the bike easier to ride in traffic, the weight of the bike was kept at only 100 kg. This bike could easily give a mileage of 60 to 65.

Jive was sold very little in the market.

the price was very low
TVS launched this bike in the year 2009. This was the first bike in the country which had a storage box under the seat. Things like water bottle, umbrella could be easily kept in this storage box. Loaded with great features, TVS Jive was launched in attractive colors at an affordable price of only Rs 41,000.

Why was Jive closed?
TVS Jive was a really good bike, but due to its technology being ahead of its time, this bike could not make its place among the people. People who were used to riding a bike with clutch from the beginning found the bike without clutch a bit strange. Jive was a clutchless bike but it was not gearless like a scooter. The company had given gears in it which people felt uncomfortable in driving without pressing the clutch. In this way, this bike did not become very popular in the market and finally the company discontinued it around 2012.
