Homemade Pickle Recipe: Radish pickle is a traditional superfood in Sitamarhi in winter. According to Sharda Devi and Dr. Sunil Suman, it is considered tasty, nutritious and beneficial for health.
Sitamarhi: With the onset of winter, abundance of fresh and juicy radish starts appearing in the market. While people eat a lot of its vegetables and salads, those who are fond of traditional taste do not forget to make radish pickle in this season. In rural areas, this pickle is considered a special winter dish. It is called the superfood of winter due to its excellent blend of taste, aroma and health benefits. Housewife Sharda Devi tells that radish pickle can be made at home in a very simple way.

Making pickles starts with washing the radish thoroughly and cutting it into thin long slices. It is important to sprinkle salt on these slices and leave them overnight, so that the rawness of radish goes away and its natural taste can develop. The next day they are dried in mild sunlight, due to which the taste and aroma of radish becomes more enhanced. It is believed in villages that pickle made from sun-dried radish is more durable and tasty.
Keep it safe for a long time like this
After this, the dry radish is softened by adding a little water and it is cut into small pieces. Turmeric, red chilli, salt, garam masala and sesame are used in spices. Mustard oil is heated and then added to this mixture after it cools down a bit. The hot oil imparts a rich flavor to the spices and radish and the pickle remains safe for a long time.
Excellent source of fiber and vitamin C
Health expert Dr. Sunil Suman says that radish pickle is an excellent source of fiber and vitamin C. It helps in improving digestion, relieving constipation and increasing immunity. The anti-oxidants present in radish are helpful in keeping the heart healthy. At the same time, with the use of sesame and turmeric, pickle becomes very beneficial for the bones. Due to its low calories and high fiber, it is also useful in weight control.
