Will India standardize the AC cooling range? 20C planned to determine the minimum temperature – what do we know here. Today news

The news agency told Bloomberg Tuesday, on 10 June 2025.

The Union Power Minister, a press conference on Tuesday, said that the government is planning to fix the AC temperature in the range of 20 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius. He highlighted that it would apply to ACS in hotels, homes and even cars.

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal, quoted by the news agency, said, “The temperature will be determined in the range of 20C-28C.” “This will be done for ACS in homes, hotels and even cars,” he said.

According to the agency’s report, this government mandate is still at an early level as there is a plan to focus on its efforts to promote energy efficiency amidst India’s increasing power consumption.

The demand for electricity has exceeded the power generation capacity, resulting in parts of India during the summer months of April to June.

Electricity consumption of air conditioner

Air conditioner thermostats suggest that some of these machine temperatures can be reduced to 16 degrees Celsius as per the agency report.

Power Secretary Pankaj Aggarwal told the news agency that a single air conditioner could be up to 50 gigawatts of power load. The increase of each one-degree in AC temperature reduces 6 percent in power consumption, said.

Aggarwal revealed that this decrease in power consumption would translate 3 gigawatts to save the summit. There are about 100 million air conditioning equipment in India, which includes about 15 million list every year.

The step of decrease in power consumption to promote energy efficiency is likely to save 60 gWATs in India’s extreme power demand by 2035. In the study of the University of California, Berkeley, the agency report mentions that it will save 7.5 lakh crore new generations and grid infrastructure.
