The Ministry of Education has launched PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana, a central sector scholarship program for college and university students. Students who want to pursue higher education have a great opportunity with the PM Higher Education Incentive Scheme. This scholarship program, which was established to assist students from low-income backgrounds, aims to increase access to high-quality education and reduce financial barriers for qualified applicants.

Approximately 82,000 new scholarships are awarded annually to students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs at prestigious schools and universities. Class 12 marks serve as the basis for the selection process. Vocational courses in engineering, medicine and related professions are also included in the programme.

PM Higher Education Promotion Scheme: Eligibility Criteria

– In Class 12 in 10+2 pattern or its equivalent, the applicant must have obtained more than 80 percent marks in the relevant stream from the respective examination board.

-Candidates must be enrolled in standard degree programmes. The candidate must be enrolled in classes in universities or other establishments approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and related regulatory bodies.

— The gross family/parental income of the applicant should not exceed Rs 4,50,000 per year.

– Apart from securing at least 50% marks in the annual examination, students must maintain a minimum attendance rate of 75% to be eligible for scholarship renewal each year. Specifically, bank accounts should be opened in the name of students.

PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Scheme: Who Are Not Eligible?

Students enrolled in diploma programs or students seeking correspondence or distance education are not eligible. Eligible students are those who are currently receiving benefits from other scholarship programs, such as state-run programs or fee waiver and reimbursement programs.

PM Higher Education Incentive Scheme: How to apply?

Step 1: Visit the applicant login page of the National Scholarship Portal at scholars.gov.in.

Step 2: Now, register yourself by entering your details. After that password and application ID will be provided.

Step 2: After entering the details and captcha click on “Login”.

Step 3: Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number on the screen. The password reset screen will be displayed. Create a new password and make sure it works.

Step 4: Press “Submit”. After that, you will be taken to the “Applicant’s Dashboard”.

Step 5: Select “Application Form”, enter information, and attach files. DigiLocker service will be used to verify the credentials of the candidate including caste and educational background.

Step 6: Now click on ‘Submit’ and save the form for later use.

The main objective of this initiative is to reduce the gap in educational access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program guarantees that more students can complete their education and contribute significantly to society by reducing dropout rates due to financial difficulties. Additionally, it supports the government’s goal of establishing an inclusive and equitable education system.
