Sunidhi Chauhan captivated the DY Patil Stadium by singing the national anthem of the Women’s World Cup.
Singer Sunidhi Chauhan enthralled the audience by singing the national anthem for the girls dressed in blue at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Later he entertained the crowd with his popular hit songs. They were joined by 60 dancers and the show featured stunning special effects fireworks.
Sharing her thoughts on the Women’s World Cup, she says, “Nothing can beat that stage, I was singing for the women of our country. I looked at the players before we started singing the national anthem and saw how excited and ready they were. I had to stop myself from crying and thankfully remained strong during the performance. The stadium was packed and I got emotional seeing such a huge crowd cheering for our girls. In the past I have had the opportunity to perform in matches like India vs India men. Pakistan match but this feeling cannot be compared with anything, I can proudly say that it will be recorded in history.
Although the plans had to be changed due to rain, Sunidhi is happy that her performance went off without any hiccups. She recalls, “The weather forecast kept us alert. Everything was ready in case it started raining. I was supposed to interact with the players and commentators, but that didn’t happen, but I’m glad I got to see my girls perform for me in between the innings. The best part was that before the match I got a chance to chat with Sachin Tendulkar, which was a serendipitous moment.”
Although the singer could not witness the winning moment in the stadium, she managed to achieve a historic win at home. She says, “I had to return home halfway because my seven-year-old son (Teg) had school the next day but I saw the moment of victory on my TV screen. It was a close fight but the victory brought a sigh of relief. I was very happy.”
