South Korea Hyunmoo-5 Missile: South Korea launched ‘Hyunmoo-5’ monster missile weighing 36 tons. Ability to destroy North Korea’s bunkers in minutes. Will be deployed till 2025, Seoul warns Kim Jong.
Seoul: Amidst the increasing nuclear and missile threat from North Korea, South Korea has surprised the whole world by introducing its most powerful ballistic missile ‘Hyunmoo-5’. It is being called “Monster Missile” because its size, capacity and fire power is many times more than any normal missile.
36 ton weight and 16 meter length – ‘Hyunmu-5’ from earth to sky
Hunmu-5 is a ground-to-ground road-mobile ballistic missile, meaning it can be launched anywhere from road. Its weight is about 36 tons and length is 16 meters. This missile has been specially designed for deep penetration and bunker-busting missions, making it capable of destroying North Korea’s underground bases and missile launch sites. Its payload capacity of up to 8 tons makes it extremely destructive. Its operational range is about 600 kilometers, which increases further with lighter warheads.
“Not nuclear, but equally powerful” – Seoul’s message
Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-bak said that this missile system will prove to be the backbone of “non-nuclear deterrence” for South Korea. He said, “If North Korea tries to intimidate by showing nuclear weapons, we will give an equally strong response with conventional weapons.”
The Hunmu-5 missile is an important part of South Korea’s two major military plans “Kill Chain” and “Korea Massive Punishment and Retaliation” (KMPR). Under these plans, in case of any aggressive situation, the North Korean leadership and their weapons bases can be immediately targeted.
The development of this “monster missile” became possible when the US lifted missile payload restrictions imposed on South Korea in 2017. After that, Seoul made tremendous progress in its missile technology and now it is counted among the leading missile powers of Asia. According to defense experts, Hunmu-5 will not only make South Korea self-reliant in regional security but will also take it to new heights of “strategic defense independence”.
New challenge for Kim Jong
Experts say that this missile can become a serious strategic challenge for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Now Seoul has such power that can destroy any nuclear base or command center within minutes. Analysts believe that the deployment of “Hyunmu-5” may change the balance of power in East Asia and now Kim Jong will have to think twice on his every step.
