If you’re feeling that intense rush of FOMO that you need to comfort, travel blogger Amy, who runs her own “lively and honest travel blog” I Dream of Mangoes, has the perfect 3-point plan.
Stop 1: Gangtok
It’s best to spend the evening of your arrival exploring the city’s evening scene on your own, with their bar scene as bright or quirky as you need them to be. If fermented foods excite your taste buds, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to arranging your plate. If not, momos, as they are, will definitely be gone, Amy confirmed. alert: Smoking, urinating or spitting on the roads is strictly prohibited.
Make it a day and before moving on to your next stop, be sure to visit Rumtek Monastery. Its spaces are incredibly welcoming as they encourage visitors to look around, watch prayer sessions and get a true experience of the daily life of a monk.
Stop 2: Yuksom
If you are looking for a quick list of places to visit in Yuksom, this is not the energy of the place. Amy’s advice for Yuksom is to let yourself get lost! Well, not literally, but this quaint town feels like it’s frozen in time, and with good purpose. Amy specifically recalls that she never felt like she was “trespassing”, as she received gentle smiles from complete strangers at every turn. As far as the food situation is concerned, you need not look beyond the local kiosks serving nutritious food. For her, it was the unique yet satisfying combination of poha and yak cheese that kept her active all day long!
Stop 3: Pelling
A stopover in Yuksom will do you good as the third stop on the itinerary, Pelling, will help you tick things off your checklist. Keeping it simple, she suggests Pelling to Kanchenjunga Falls, Buddha Park and Sky Walk, spread over the course of 2 days.
