PM Modi at BRICS Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canal Bermudez discussed methods to increase bilateral relations in major areas such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, traditional medicine and digital public infrastructure during a meeting at the 17th BRICS Summit on 6 July.

The two leaders exchanged ideas of increasing cooperation in areas including Ayurveda, Integrated Payment Interface (UPI), disaster management and capacity building, according to an official statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea).

The two leaders agreed to work on issues of concern of global South, including health, epidemic and climate change. The statement said that he appreciated cooperation between the two countries in the multilateral sector.

‘Economic relations have a lot of potential’

Mea spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X, “PM Narendra Modi met Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canal Bermudase on the banks of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.”

The two leaders exchanged views on various aspects of India-Cuba relations, including economic cooperation, biotechnology, pharma, Ayurveda and traditional medicine, digital public infrastructure and UPI, disaster management and capacity building.

PM Modi also said in a post on X that it was amazing to meet Cuban President Miguel Diz-Canal Bermudez.

“In our talks, we covered a wide range of subjects. There is a lot of possibility of growing in economic relations between our nations. Equally promising technology, healthcare and energy are areas. The increasing acceptance of Ayurveda in Cuba is definitely a great thing. We also discussed methods to strengthen disaster management,” the Prime Minister said.

Modi calls for sanctions against terrorists

Earlier, speaking at the summit, PM Modi said that the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people, most of the citizens were killed on 22 April, was a shock not only for India but for humanity.

At the BRICS Summit at Rio de Janeiro, he said, “There should be no hesitation in banning terrorists. For personal or political gains, giving silent consent, supporting terrorists or terrorists, should not be acceptable.”

There is a lot of possibility of growing in economic relations between our nations.

PM Modi called for sanctions against terrorists and said that it should not be acceptable to give silence, terrorists or supporting terrorists.
