Natalie recently competed and completed the Kona Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. She completed the course, which requires you to complete it in less than 17 hours, in 16 hours, 45 minutes and 26 seconds, setting the record for the oldest woman to complete the world’s largest, full-distance triathlon event.

Secret of 80 year old Natalie Grabow’s fitness

Although her accomplishments are inspiring, Natalie didn’t reach these fitness levels in a day. He honed his skills over the years. On October 15, she told Business Insider that she had always been active, participating in sports activities including cheerleading, basketball, soccer, skiing, running, and step aerobics. She also competed in the 5K and 10K and eventually, after retirement, became involved in more races.

However, she never did a triathlon because she did not know how to swim. “I finally decided to learn to swim at the age of 59,” she told the publication. She picked up books, watched videos, and took classes to learn the technique.

‘I work out in the gym for 2 hours every day…’

Once she knew how to swim, she started with sprints and worked her way up to 70.3, the half-distance race of the Ironman. At age 61, he qualified for the Kona Ironman World Championships and then at age 80, he did it again.

“I prepare for months before a race, working out in the gym for about two hours every day… As far as my general health goes, I’ve been lucky. I’ve had a few minor injuries in the past, but no serious ones. I take standard multi-vitamins, but no prescription medications,” she confessed.

Attributing triathlon to benefiting her mind and body, Natalie confessed, “I stay very focused during races and feel a great sense of satisfaction when I cross the finish line. After a good workout, I know I’m getting stronger each time. Movement is an essential part of life if you want to avoid health problems as we age.”

What does she eat in a day?

As far as her diet is concerned, Natalie revealed that it usually consists of healthy food. She said, “I eat a lot of vegetables, meat and dairy products. However, I don’t restrict it in any way. As an athlete you get hungry. People are surprised when I tell them sweets are my favourite. I especially love dark chocolate.”
