New Delhi. A shocking case has come to light from war-torn Sudan. Indian citizen Adarsh Behera, resident of Odisha, has been kidnapped by a militia group called Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Bloody conflict has been going on in Sudan between the Army (SAF) and RSF for the last one and a half years. Due to which Sudan has reached the verge of destruction. Amidst this violence, the kidnapping of an Indian citizen has become a new challenge for the Indian government. In a viral video, he is seen in the custody of RSF.
36-year-old Adarsh Behera is a resident of Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha and worked in Al-Fashir city of Sudan. According to sources, RSF armed fighters kidnapped him from Al-Fashir and later took him to Nyala city of South Darfur, which is considered a major base of RSF. It is being told that Behera was working as a technical employee in a private company in Sudan.
A video went viral on social media, in which Adarsh Behera is seen sitting between two armed RSF soldiers. In the video, a soldier asks him, “Do you know Shahrukh Khan?” Another soldier calls him “Dagalo good bolo” in support of RSF chief Mohammad Hamdan Dagalo. After this video surfaced, there has been a stir in India and his family members are in shock.
The Indian Embassy is keeping an eye on this entire matter and is in touch with the administration there regarding the safety of Indian citizens stranded in Sudan. The conflict between the Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF has been going on in Sudan since April 2023, due to which more than 1 crore people have been displaced so far. Many areas including the capital Khartoum have been completely destroyed. In such circumstances, kidnapping of a foreign citizen is a very serious sign. The Indian government is now preparing to intensify efforts at the diplomatic level for the safe return of Behera.
