NCP (SP) Maharashtra President Jayant Patil on Tuesday clarified that he has not resigned from the post after stepping into the presence of the party’s head Sharad Pawar.

“I haven’t resigned,” Jayant Patil said that when asked about the report that he could step down.

Earlier in the day, Jayant Patil’s remarks at an event held at the Balgandherva Auditorium in Pune on the 26th Foundation Day of the Nationalist Congress Party gave rise to an emotional response to the workers who urged him to continue.

Patil said that it is important for the party to give new faces a chance.

Power Saheb gave me a lot of opportunities. I was entrusted with the responsibility for seven years, but now it is important for the party to give new faces a chance, “Patil triggers a strong response from the party employees who opposed their decision.

Amidst his emotional appeal, Patil requested the workers to calm down in a kneel with emotions.

Power said, “This party belongs to Pawar Saheb, and therefore, he should take a proper decision. We all thank Pawar Saheb and all party workers,” Power concluded his speech.

NCP, established by Sharad Pawar, divided its nephew Ajit Pawar after joining the then Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government in July 2023. The name of the party was given to the Ajit Pawar faction, the symbol of its clock, while the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) headed by the former Union Agriculture Minister was named.

Addressing the party employees, Pawar said that Jayant Patil’s proposal would be discussed and a decision would be discussed between the party leaders before reaching a decision.

“Jayant Patil has expressed his wish that new faces should get opportunities. You and I should stand by them. I just want to say that we will discuss the proposal with him and all senior party leaders and a collective decision will be taken,” said Pawar.

He said that the party should ensure that new faces decide on Jayant Patil and get opportunities in every district.

Patil, a staunch loyalty of Sharad Pawar, has been loyal to him since the formation of Nekan. After Ajit Pawar revolted in 2023, he biased with Pawar Senior.
