Chilkur Balaji Temple, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, is today famous by the name of “Visa Devta”. Here thousands of devotees take a vow of going abroad and circumambulate 108 times barefoot. Devotees believe that by the grace of Lord Balaji, all the obstacles in their visa application are removed and they get approval. A unique confluence of faith and tradition can be seen in this nearly 1000 year old temple, where every Thursday a crowd of devotees pray to God to fulfill their “Visa Vow”.
Hyderabad. Chilkur Balaji Temple located on the outskirts of the city is no less than a miracle. This temple is now called the temple of Visa Devta, where thousands of devotees who wish to go abroad throng the place. The miracle here is that after the deep faith and hard sadhana of the devotees, their visa applications are accepted. Chilkur Balaji Temple is believed to be around 1000 years old and a self-manifested idol of Lord Balaji is installed here. Traditionally this temple was famous for its home peace and prevention of ghosts.
But in the last two decades, its fame has spread as a “Visa Temple”, especially among the youth and professionals who dream of studying, working or settling in countries like America, Canada, Australia. It is believed that Chilkur Balaji has the supernatural power to grant visas when he is pleased. Devotees believe that if they perform a particular ritual here with full devotion and rigor, then all obstacles in their visa application are removed and the visa is approved.

Devotees have to circumambulate the main sanctum sanctorum of the temple 108 times. This number is considered very important spiritually. They have to do all these parikramas barefoot, even if the ground is hot or gravelly. While doing parikrama, devotees have to chant “Ram Naam” or “Jai Veer Hanuman” loudly. By this one gets God’s blessings quickly.
Many devotees take a pledge to perform this ritual for 11 or 41 consecutive Thursdays, as Thursday is considered especially dear to Lord Balaji and Hanuman Ji. Shri Chilkur Balaji Temple is located in Chilkur village, Hayatnagar mandal, Hyderabad. It is located at a distance of about 30 kilometers from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, you can easily reach here via Ring Road.
