How Indian designers are reimagining the bridal veil

Date:

The veil is truly the final adornment that completes a bride’s ensemble and this wedding season, the simple veil has transformed from a traditional veil to the ultimate statement piece. From Manish Malhotra to Falguni Shane Peacock, almost every bridal wear designer is focused on the veil this season. The bejeweled veil designed by Falguni Shane Peacock features emerald stones that give the illusion of vintage jewellery, while Manish has worked heavily on aari and zardosi embroidery work, reviving the heritage craft for the veil.

From jewelery to exotic embroideries, bridal veils have overtaken traditional Vedic mantras and early trends for couples.

Contemporary Indian bridal trends tend to be maximalist, focusing on veils adorned with lush embroidery and heavy jewellery, which not only complete the ensemble – they become the star of the show. Designer Reena Dhaka says, “Moving beyond simple boundaries, the modern bridal veil or dupatta are being re-imagined as works of wearable art, presenting a grand, cinematic entrance that sets the tone for the entire celebration.”

Designer Shruti Sancheti says, “Beyond text, bridal veils now feature distinct motifs – from delicate butterflies and blooming 3D floral embellishments to divine patterns – making each piece truly one-of-a-kind.”

The bejeweled veil is no longer just an accessory, it has become a cherished piece of exclusively wearable art that narrates the bride’s journey and her love story, to be treasured for generations to come. In this wedding season, veil is boldly making its place in the headlines.

Designer Nachiket Barve says, “The modern bride is looking for something beyond Vedic verses and the couple’s initials on the veil and designers are definitely catering to this demand for brides to make a statement on their D-day with complete chic.”
