Hong Kong Mul Does Beijing should handle the case of connivance? Mint

Hong Kong officials are investigating whether to invite Article 55 of the city’s National Security Act, said Chris Tang, secretary of security at a commercial radio program on Saturday. Article 55 underlines the circumstances under which the jurisdiction on Hong Kong’s National Security Affairs can be used in Beijing’s office to protect national security.

“The office would need to find out if any situation was specified under Article 55,” Tang said. “We need to understand and investigate what this happened.”

The Hong Kong government did not immediately respond to the request of comment out of normal work hours.

If the case turns into Beijing, it will also be a turn of how the city handles national security matters. The independent courts of the former British colony and the rule of law are often credited for its success as financial capital.

Tang’s comments include Hong Kong and city officials in view of the first known joint operation performed by the National Security Office of Beijing.

Local authorities announced on Thursday night that they were investigating a case of alleged foreign collusion with China’s office to protect national security. Hong Kong Safety Officers discovered the houses of six suspects, as well as evidence including an organization’s office, and bank documents and equipment.
