IGI Airport: Hello madam… hey, listen right…. Listen… you will no longer hear such voices at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Actually, to remove such noises from the airport, IGI Airport Police had started a special drive.
Under this drive, the Airport Police has so far arrested a total of 540 accused and put them behind the bars. It is noteworthy that this is the first time after the Commonwealth Games and G-20 Meet, when such a major action has been taken against touts.
According to DCP Usha Ranganani, complaints about touting were continuously coming from different terminals of IGI Airport. Taking seriously the increasing cases of touting, the airport police had formed an anti-touting team. These teams were also deployed in the parking zone along with the airport area of the terminal.
Also, it was ensured that these anti-touting teams remain active 24 hours a day in all those areas of the airport where touts try to trap passengers. Apart from this, police patrolling was also increased.
He told that the effect of this exercise of the airport police started becoming visible and one by one 540 touts were caught red handed and sent behind the bars. He said that along with the action against touts, 254 vehicles have also been seized. All these vehicles were being used for touting.
To completely eliminate touting, 41 preventive arrests were also made from the airport. At the same time, if we talk about 2023, IGI Airport Police had arrested 264 touts and seized only 96 vehicles. Not a single preventive arrest was made last year.
