Finding Balance: Yoga Tips to Reconcile Academic and Personal Life

Date:

We all talk about being pulled in ten different directions but who knows this better than students and professionals? One minute, you are buried in assignments or meetings and the next moment, your personal life is attracting attention.

It can be really hard to manage both and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Saurabh Bothra, CEO, Habuild, shared, “Fortunately, yoga offers a practical solution to achieving a seamless harmony between academic commitments and personal well-being. The demands of modern education require long periods of study, concentration and performance, often leading to stress, anxiety and burnout. On the other hand, personal life needs to be focused on, whether it’s spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies or simply relaxing.”

According to him, yoga can be one of the best ways to manage it due to some reasons –

1. Reduces stress and anxiety:

Yoga activates the relaxation system of our body which helps us reduce stress hormones like cortisol. Breathing exercises like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nose-to-nose breathing) or simple stretches like Child’s Pose (Balasan) can provide instant calmness. When things feel overwhelming, whether it’s an exam or a hard day at work, try some yoga to de-stress!

2. Improves focus and concentration:

Struggling to stay focused during study sessions or meetings? Yoga can help sharpen your mind. That means faster work and less stress! Each asana is an invitation for us to be present and mindful. Every breath calms our mind. It has been proven to effectively improve focus in students!

3. Creates a discipline:

Yoga promotes healthy habits that easily fit into a busy routine. A short exercise in the morning energizes you, while some exercise in the evening helps you relax. Over time, these small habits add structure to your day, making it easier to manage both academic and personal time without feeling overwhelmed.

4. Helps in better sleep and recovery:

Late night revision or work stress can disturb sleep but yoga helps in this. Practices like yoga nidra or simple exercises before bedtime relax the body and mind, thereby improving sleep quality. When you are well rested, it becomes easier to perform well in both academic and personal life.

Life is completely based on balance. Whether it’s a busy work week or a holiday break – yoga is something that suits everyone and makes it easy to achieve that balance. So, try taking off your mat from time to time, take a deep breath and remember, it’s not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about finding moments of peace even in a busy journey!
