Nimar region is the leader in milk production, in Rakesh Patel’s farm, cows of Gir, HF, Jersey breed give 25–30 liters of milk, care and nutrition increases the quality.
Khandwa News: Nimar region has been a leader in milk production for centuries. The cows here are not only the backbone of the rural economy, but they have also made it recognized as the “Milk Capital” of the country. Today some breeds give up to 25–30 liters of milk per day, but breed alone is not enough, proper care, nutrition and clean environment are equally important.
According to experts, it is important to give a balanced diet to the cow. It should include green fodder, dry chaff, cake, jaggery, copra and chapad. This increases both the quantity and quality of milk. Also, feeding clean water twice a day is also mandatory, as it plays an important role in the milk production process. A clean and ventilated enclosure keeps the cows stress-free, dirt and infection can affect milk production.
Rakesh Patel has become an inspiration in this field
Rakesh Patel of Malgaon village of Khandwa has become an inspiration in this field. There are cows of Gir, HF, Jersey and indigenous breeds in his farm. Cows are provided facilities like sleeping on comfortable mattresses, bathing twice a day and direct shower system. Rakesh’s cows are fed a mixture of jaggery, copra, green corn, cake and chapad, which increases both fat and milk production. His cows give 25–30 liters of milk. Rakesh believes that the cow should be taken care of as a member of the family; Only a happy cow gives more milk.
These are the major high producing breeds in India. Gir, HF, Jersey, Sahiwal and Tharparkar. The combination of milk production of these breeds along with proper care and technology can double the income of the farmer. Rakesh Patel of Nimar is a living example of this.
