Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the ‘The Order of the Republic’, the highest civilian honor of Trinidad & Tobago. This is the 25th international honor they got. Modi called it a common glory of 140 crore Indians.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’, the highest civilian honor of Trinidad & Tobago. This is the 25th International Award for him from a country, which has been given for his global leadership capacity, association with the Indian migrant community and human efforts made during the Kovid-19 epidemic. He received this honor during a two -day visit to Trinidad. While receiving the award, Prime Minister Modi said that this honor is a symbol of deep and eternal friendship between India and Trinidad and Tobago. He said, ‘I accept this honor as a shared pride from 140 crore Indians.’ This honor to Prime Minister Modi is not only a personal achievement, but it is a proof of India’s global reputation and powerful diplomacy.

Nobel winners Derek Volcott and VS are still among those who received this honor. Nayapaul, cricket veteran Brian Lara, former President Alice Clarke, Noor Hasanali, George Maxwell Richards and National leader Dr. Eric Williams have been included. Now Prime Minister Modi’s name has also been recorded in this list.

This is Modi’s first visit to Trinidad as Prime Minister and this is the first bilateral visit of an Indian Prime Minister after 1999. Earlier in Ghana, he was also awarded the ‘Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’.

What is ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’ honor?

The award can be given to any citizen or non-citizen who has done extraordinary service for Trinidad and Tobago. This award is given only in the Gold version and only five persons can get this honor in a year. It can also be given posthumously, but this does not make the deceased members of that society.
