Traditional Bihari Recipe For Chhath Puja: These traditional Bihari dishes made on Chhath Puja are a symbol of devotion, sweetness of nature and divine power. These are made without onion, garlic or any artificial thing, so that they remain completely pure. These dishes also reflect the simplicity of the festival.

Chhath Puja Prasad Recipes: Chhath Puja is celebrated every year six days after Diwali and its most popular form is seen in Bihar. However, this ancient Hindu festival is celebrated with reverence and devotion not only in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand but also in West Bengal and Nepal. In this four-day long festival, people observe fast on the banks of rivers or water bodies, perform rigorous rituals and prepare traditional Bihari dishes. These dishes are known for purity and simplicity. The family members prepare them together, whether it is washing the wheat, drying it or grinding it. These dishes, prepared in new ovens and utensils made of washed clay, are used as pure prasad for the worship of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya.

5 Bihari dishes made on Chhath –

Thekua or Kajuriya is a traditional fried sweet snack of Bihar, made from bran wheat flour. It is prepared with the family before Chhath Puja. It is very popular in Bihar as well as other parts of the country and is mainly eaten in Vrat-Prasad.

Rasiyav is a light, nutritious and simple dish, made with rice, jaggery, bay leaves and ginger. It is often prepared as Prasad in Chhath Puja. In this, rice is slowly cooked in milk and garnished with cardamom powder, raisins, almonds and pistachios.

pumpkin curry
Pumpkin curry is an important dish of Chhath Puja and is often served with puri. This dish is made with traditional Indian spices and the pumpkin is cooked in the spices until soft. It is decorated by adding green coriander on top.

Saffron Laddus (Rice Laddus)
These laddus are made from rice flour, jaggery and sometimes cardamom. Rice flour is roasted and dry coconut is added to it. Fresh milk cream and jaggery add sweetness and texture to the laddu. Cardamom powder enhances the taste and sesame and dry fruits are garnished on top.

gourd chana dal
This dish is made from bottle gourd and gram dal and is considered a healthy option in the Chhath Puja meal. The taste of curry is enhanced by adding Indian spices, tomatoes and cumin seeds to it.
