A second-year B.Tech student at Srinivas Institute of Technology and Management Studies (SITAMS) in Chittoor district committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the college building, police said on Wednesday. As per ANI report, he suffered serious injuries and was first taken to a local hospital before being shifted to a hospital in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, where he was later declared dead during treatment.
Following the incident, tension arose on the college campus as family members of the deceased reached there and started questioning the college management about the circumstances of his death. During the confrontation, Chittoor Taluk Circle Inspector Nitya Babu allegedly pushed the family members, leading to further chaos.

Chittoor DSP Sainath, while addressing the media, said that preliminary investigation shows that the student died by suicide due to love affair. According to the DSP, the girl had allegedly told the student that they should ‘settle down’ before considering a relationship, which left him upset and led to the tragic incident.
After the incident, the family members of the deceased tried to protest in the college, which led to an uproar. During the scuffle, a woman from the family reportedly fell, following which it was alleged that the police had behaved harshly towards them. Authorities have started further investigation into the incident.
In a tragic incident a few days ago, a Class 6 student died after falling from the fourth floor of a private school in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Police had said that preliminary investigation revealed that the girl died allegedly by suicide. CCTV footage of the school is being examined by officials to determine the sequence of events that led to the girl’s death.
