As soon as the police received the news, they arrested all three.

Police said the three suspects arrested have been identified as Liao Jhibin (24), Song Jenhao (26), and Guo Jiavei (27). 160 kg (353 pounds) living Harmit crabs were recovered from them, which were filled in six suitcases.
According to the police, a hotel worker of Amami city had informed the environmental authorities about this. He saw something moving in the bags of the suspects, soon after which the calls were made to the authorities. The employee said that the bag was kept in the hotel storage. From it, “voice of rattle” was coming. Police and environmental officers reached the spot and investigated the suitcase. Investigations found that thousands of spiral-chest Harmit crabs are filled in the suitcase.

When the three suspects returned to the hotel on Wednesday, the police immediately took them into custody. According to Kyodo News of Japan, all three have been accused of placing organisms of protected species without any authority. Haramit crabs in Japan are classified as “National Natural Monuments”. Strict laws have been made for their safety. Given their cultural and scientific importance, it is illegal to hunt or transport them.
